What are services like?
Our unity as a congregation is centered in our common worship, because it is here that we experience the transforming love of Jesus Christ. Sunday is our primary day of for worship. Our primary form of worship is called the Eucharist (Greek for "thanksgiving”), though you may also have heard it called the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion, or Mass. Most of our services have two parts. The first part is the Liturgy (or Service) of the Word in which we read the scriptures. hear a homily, affirm our faith, pray for ourselves and each other, are forgiven all the ways we have fallen short, and share with each other a sign of God's peace. The second part of the sermon, is the Liturgy of the Sacrament (or Communion), in which we liturgically remember Christ's redemption of the world, gather around the altar to receive the body and blood of Christ (the bread of life and the cup of salvation), thank God for feeding us, and then are sent forth into the world to do God's work by serving those around us. Our worship style is somewhat traditional in form, yet informal in spirit, and child and family friendly. As one worshiper put it, “We take God seriously, and ourselves with a grain of salt." People dresses quite casually (some even wear shorts in the summer). But if you want to dress a bit more formally, that’s O.K., too (we want you to feel comfortable).

What is the community like?
We are a young and growing congregation serving the Darnestown-Germantown-North Potomac area of Montgomery County, Maryland, a member congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, The Episcopal Church, and part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion. We are warm and welcoming, come-as-you-are and be-who-you-are kind of congregation, grounded in Scripture and centered in life. And, of course, with a name like St. Nick's, we have a special affinity for ministry to the youngest among us and a desire to involve them actively in all that we do.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Questions? Doubts? Uncertainties? Bring Them To Church. You don't have to have it all figured out to come to St. Nick's. At St. Nicholas Church we welcome and love you just as you are, because God has welcomed and loved us the same way: with no strings attached. And we want to be there to help you explore what God is calling you to be and to do, because that exploration is our life's journey as well.
