Spirit Garage

About Us

the church with the really big door

3-things to take from our tagline. . .

1. We are a Church. We understand “church” not as an organization, institution, or place, but the gathering of people following Jesus. We are Jesus’ hands, feet, and voice of grace in this world.

2. We have a Really Big Door. Everyone is welcome here. Everyone is a part of the whole. The chorus of a song written by a member, says it best:

Barf Bag Boogie — Lyrics by Tommy Zerse © 2004 Music by Tommy Zerse and Karmann Peters © 2004
We don’t see the same, we don’t sound the same.
We don’t talk, or walk, or get around the same.
We don’t smell the same, we don’t look the same
But we can all rise up and live the same.
(offering grace as followers of Jesus)

3. The Really Big Door swings both ways. Everyone is welcome, but no one is obligated to stay. There are other churches that might be more fitting for you. Simply ask and we can hopefully help you find the right one. What we want most is that every person knows the story of Jesus, and learns to live the story as their own.

Spirit Garage’s Mission & Core Values
The following statement of mission and core values was developed to help us better understand and articulate the vision and purpose that God has placed within Spirit Garage. The mission and the values help guide us in our life as a community and serve to inspire us to new action, as well as help us to remain consistent with our values, as we grow and change over time.

Mission Statement
By the same grace that Jesus has given you, seek to love God with all of your body, spirit, and mind, and to share God’s love with all people.

Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” [Jesus] said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
