About Us

A Traditional Church "contending for the faith once delivered to the saints".

St. Luke's Anglican Church is a community of traditional Anglican Christians, just west of Richmond, Virginia in Goochland County. We're located on Route 6, commonly known as River Road West or Patterson Avenue, about 3 miles west of Route 288 . We are a Mission of the Anglican Church in North America. Every Sunday, we gather for services of Morning Prayer and Holy Communion using the Book of Common Prayer, where we hear God's Word from Holy Scripture and receive the Holy Mystery of Our Lord's Real Presence: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, both in the Bread and Cup. If you are a Baptized Christian, we invite you to join us in making your weekly Holy Communion with Our Lord. Not Baptized? Come then, and join with us in studying His Word, and in learning more of Our Lord's ways and teaching. The Christian journey is life-long, and not always easy, but the Reward is Great! "Come and see", won't you?.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Ours is a traditional and formal style of worship from the Traditional Language edition of the Anglican Church in North America's Book of Common Prayer. Yes, we use the old-style Elizabethan English with Thee and Thou. Why? We feel strongly that one should address the Almighty in a style other than the vernacular heard in everyday society. Doing so helps us experience some level of having stepped out of worldly (temporal) time, and into the timelessness of God's eternity. Our principal service for Sunday worship is the 10:00 AM service of Holy Communion, also known as the Holy Eucharist, the Lord's Supper, the Mass, or the Divine Liturgy. We assemble to praise and pray; read the Word of God from Holy Scripture and hear it explained; then are strengthened by receiving the Body and Blood of Christ in the sacrament of the altar. By continuing in the breaking bread, sharing of the cup and the prayers, we proclaim Christ’s death and resurrection until he comes again.

What is the community like?
We're a fairly easy-going bunch. Some younger, some middle aged, some older. But, at the end of it all, we're a group of sinners....struggling to know our Lord, struggling for holiness, falling, confessing our faults, beginning again. The Christian path is never an easy one. Thus, we work always to support each other.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We welcome you to worship with us! Whether you are an Anglican Christian, or this is your first visit, we are pleased to have you with us. Although Holy Communion and other Sacraments are offered only to baptized Christians, all are invited receive a blessing from the priest at the altar rail when it is time to come forward to receive the Holy Mysteries. After the Service, please join us in the Church Hall for fellowship and refreshments. We hope that you will return often to worship with us, to grow in Christ and in our Anglican Faith. If you are interested in becoming a Christian, please speak with our priest Fr. Chuck about preparing for the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
