New St. John Baptist Church

I remember fond memories of growing up in the Bronx and being Baptized as a child, by Reverend Thomas, I believe was his name and he was blind. We had a blind organist as well and Deacon Parker use to assist him at the church. Deacon Parkers wife and him had two little girls named Vera and Molly and a baby brother. They met my parents at P.S. 85 during a teacher conference on report card day. Vera and I were in class together and the next thing I was meeting the Parkers and going to church up the hill on 187th Street on Lorrilard Avenue. I loved everything taught to me here from bible study, Sunday school , cakewalks, Christmas Easter and spending the late night on December 31,to bring in the new year with a candlelit service with my mamma and papa there, but my most memorable is when I opened up the doors of the church after the Reverend said the church of the doors are open will they be anyone to come forward? I looked at the back of the church with the doors closed and at seven years old, I got up and opened the doors of the church and from that day on my life has always had Jesus Christ in my life to know Gods house was a real place.
