Who We Are

Mission: A community of hope in New York City that radically lives, performs and proclaims ‘The Way’ of Jesus Christ.

What is the the way/good news of Christ: The gospel is the work of God to restore humans to union with God and communion with others, in the context of community, for the good of others and the world.

Vision: Metro Hope will witness a people restored to union with God, transformed by rhythms of grace experienced in radical community, with neighborhoods woven together by the shalom of Jesus Christ, leading to spiritual renewal in the personal, social, economic and cultural fabric of New York City and beyond.

Our Services

What are services like?
We can say a lot about services at Metro, but it is best to experience it live to fully take in the many styles and influences of our style of worship. In the meantime, check out this short video of our Worship Arts Coordinator, Chantilly Mers, as she explains what is our services are like. Simply copy and paste the link below into your browser. Maybe we will catch you around some day!

I’m a life-long New Yorker who loves the city. I love eating at some of our local bistros, reading, writing and photography. As a pastor in a busy city my commitment to the gospel, and our church, is embodied through “shalom-making”. Practically this happens through us learning the ‘unforced rhythms of grace’ through contemplation, bridging racial divides through conversation, and becoming more like Christ (spiritual maturity) as we journey together in community.

  • The reason I love the Metro Hope Community is because it is truly diverse and takes the full Gospel seriously-salvation, discipleship and social justice. Metro Hope has started a intentional community and garden in East Harlem to ensure that we are truly apart of the East Harlem community, many of the members live, work and/or study in Harlem. Additionally Metro Hope has a great children's ministry called Hope Kidz which serves children in the community even if the children's parents do not attend the church. Metro Hope has held 2 annual Hope for Haiti events with participation from CNN, the U.N., the Episcopal Church and others.Held in the historic National Black Theater Metro Hope respectfully pays homage to the rich religious tradition of Harlem while adding a multicultural flare for a new generation.
