About Us

"Join us. It could change everything!"

We're often told that MAPC is one of the warmest and most welcoming congregations in the city, as well as one of the most active. We'd like to think we're simply being faithful to Jesus' call to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

We are a surprisingly diverse congregation in every way, particularly given our location in the heart of the Upper East Side. So, whether you're a single young adult, a couple with a growing family or perhaps moving through the middle or latter years of life, MAPC offers inspiring worship with communion at every service, numerous outreach opportunities and many supportive groups of other Christians at similar life stages. What we all have in common is our desire to be more faithful in following Jesus Christ, being changed ourselves as we seek to change others in his name.

Why not join us for a worship service? Be sure to stop by and say hello to one of the pastors at the rear of the sanctuary after the service.

Still want to know more about us? Check out MAPC online at www.mapc.com or at the PCUSA web site at http://www.pcusa.org/congregations/5641/. Or, better still, just give Don Wahlig a call at 212-288-8920 x242 or email him at [email protected].

Hope to see you in church!

What to Expect

What are services like?
Traditional without being overly formal or stuffy. Worship is the defining characteristic of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church and the wellspring from which all our other ministries are nourished. MAPC’s tradition of strong and vital preaching, rich sacramental life and truly outstanding music program lead us in experiencing God in worship and offering glory, praise and thanksgiving that is absolutely joyous. Holy Communion, which is open to all baptized Christians, is celebrated each Sunday. Baptism is celebrated during Sunday worship and is offered to children of active members and to adults upon uniting with the church by profession of faith. Children are always welcome in worship at MAPC and invited to participate each Sunday in a Children’s Lesson held at the baptismal font. After the lesson, children may attend one of two age-appropriate classes held during the sermon. Professional childcare is also available for the very young on Sunday mornings during the services and Christian Education hour.

What is the community like?
Warm. welcoming and surprisingly diverse in every sense, with a common desire to grow in our faithfulness. We are a mix of all ages and backgrounds and we genuinely enjoy one another. There is a large contingent of young families, and also a strong group of young adults, mid-timers and seniors. We are known for being active in outreach and have numerous ministries that engage our members as volunteers, including a homeless ministry, community feeding program, new ESL program for Immigrants and an innovative partnership with Presbyterians and others in Africa.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You're welcome here. You wouldn't be looking at this page if God' weren't already working in your life, pointing you to see what's going on at MAPC. We'll help you get to know him better. The truth is that's what all of us here are trying to do: know God better and especially what he's done for us in Jesus Christ, so that we might follow him more faithfully. It's the journey of a lifetime - why not join us on the journey?

An oasis of faith and spirituality in the midst of the city. I'm biased, but this truly is a wonderful congregation.
