About Us

A Confessional Lutheran Church of the Book of Concord 1580.

We believe, teach, and confess the doctrine of the evangelical, catholic faith as it is taught by the Holy Scriptures and faithfully confessed in the Book of Concord of 1580.
Grace Lutheran Church of Dyer, Indiana is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod (LCMS). Our congregation is located in the Tri-town northwest Indiana parish of Dyer, Schererville, and St. John.

We believe, teach, and confess the doctrine of the evangelical, catholic faith as it is taught by the Holy Scriptures and faithfully confessed in the Book of Concord of 1580.

We are committed to the pure preaching of God’s Word and the right administration of the holy Sacraments, catechesis of all people in the Christian faith, and liturgical worship consistent with our Reformation heritage.

The congregation at Grace is joined in the one, holy Christian church, proclaiming Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and reigning for the salvation of the world.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Lutheran worship puts the focus squarely on Jesus Christ, who is present for us and with us through His Word and Sacraments. Lutheran worship is, therefore, Christ-centered, not man-centered. When we are gathered for worship, we are not contemplating some far-off Christ or meditating on abstract concepts, or pondering various principles for living. Neither are we in church to be amused or entertained. Christ is living and active among us, right where He has promised to be in His Word and Sacraments. Jesus said, “Lo, I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). When He gathers us around His Word and Sacraments, He fulfills this promise to us once again.

What is the community like?
Just as Grace Lutheran Church is a place where witness is borne to Jesus through Word and Sacrament, it is also a place where his mercy goes forth into the world through acts of loving service. We exercise the various gifts and offices with which God has entrusted us to serve one another with the love of Christ. We joyfully serve and give out of the substance with which our Lord has served and gifted us–locally, through our elders, Ladies’ Aid, Sharing Caring fund, ministerial association, and community service projects, and nationally and internationally, through gifts and prayers and organizations like LCMS World Relief and Human Care. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Grace Lutheran Church is here to bear witness to the Truth. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, from all eternity. The eternal Son was made flesh in Jesus Christ, died on the cross for the sins of the world, and was raised bodily from the dead on the third day, with life and salvation for all who believe in his Name. He is the only hope for sinful man. In him alone we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone. The Church bears witness to salvation in this Jesus in her preaching of Christ crucified, raised, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. If you are not a Christian or are in doubt, come and hear what Jesus has done for you!
