Downtown Church

About Us

We are committed to developing a church community that is intentional about building authentic relationships centered on grace, mercy, integrity, and respect.

The Glory of God: We are committed to God’s glory because we are created to be caught up in it alone. Being captivated by God’s glory results in turning our hearts and minds away from our idols and re-ordering our lives around God. We desire to be so captivated by God’s glory that it becomes the ultimate motivation behind everything we do!

Christ-Centered Lives: We are committed to living out of a reconciled relationship with Jesus. He came to us when we were fractured in our relationship with God, and He reconciled us with the Father through His own life, death, and resurrection. Such a radical work of grace demands our life, our soul, and our all.

Intentional Relationships: We are committed to pursuing intentional relationships because we believe that we were created in the image of a God who exists in relationship. He is one God yet three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. He has intentionally pursued us from all eternity, reflecting His desire for us to pursue relationships with Him and others.

Mercy: We are committed to the belief that mercy is the action of love. We cannot claim to love others if our neighbor is suffering alone. This commitment demands knowing the needs of our neighbors and responding according to the love of Christ for us. Also, we will actively pursue mercy and justice for the widow, orphan, poor, and oppressed.

Active Integrity & Respect: We are committed to creating a community in which all are treated with equal integrity and respect. This commitment demands a heart and life bent on dying to self and embracing others in humility, selflessness, and love.

What to Expect

What are services like?
When you worship with Downtown, you will find an economically, socially, racially, and culturally diverse congregation joined by the one Father who unites brothers and sisters in Christ. You will be greeted at the door and directed to our children’s nursery, our info table, and/or the coffee and donuts. We seek to facilitate a worship service which encourages each person to express him/herself freely while keeping others in mind. Nursery and children's church are provided for infants through grade 5, and we encourage older children to be in worship. All children in 1-5th grades worship with the adults on the first Sunday of the month. We meet from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m., celebrate communion the first Sunday of each month, and encourage people to hang around after worship to connect with others. We also have a pot luck breakfast the second Sunday of every month at 9:30 a.m. in the worship room. Our building is a renovated warehouse and our music is a mixture of revised hymns, black gospel and contemporary worship songs. Feel free to dress casually. We meet at 456 Tennessee Street. We look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!!

What is the community like?
We are very diverse economically, educationally, & racially. We also offer Community Groups, which are made up of individuals who are committed to pulling one another along in the faith and freely welcoming those investigating the faith.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We'd love for you to join us & learn more about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ!
