I attended this church for about 8 years 1951-1959. I was raised in the Baptist Orphanage at 58th & Thomas Ave. Each boy in our orphanage was assigned a "patron" who bought our clothes and gifts on our birthday and Christmas. My patron was Mrs. Rooney. She was caring and kind just like the other wonderful Christian members of this church. I live in Oregon and nearing the end of my life. I would very much like to know what happened to the Baptist Orphanage. It's been torn down and I cannot find a record of its very existence. Can someone help me with any information? I understand that Irene Wells compiled a book called "The History of the Baptist Orphanage 1879-1979, where a lone copy exists at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. I can be reached at [email protected] God bless all.
