Our Services

What are services like?
Worship - We begin our service with about 25 minutes of music where adults and children alike express our love and thanks to God. Feel free to participate or simply listen. We also make room during worship to rest in the presence of God; to understand more of why we do this, please check out our Values on our website. We then have a brief welcome & announcements, followed by dismissal of kids (birth-6th grade) to Kingdom Kids program. Then our pastor or speaker will deliver a message, applying biblical truth to everyday life. Messages are recorded and made available on our site under Watch & Listen. We finish our service by taking communion together and remembering what Jesus Christ has done for us through his death and resurrection. We offer a time after for 'Ministry Time' for anyone who wants to receive prayer for any kind of need or in response to the message. After the service, people head down to our Community Room to connect over coffee and homemade treats.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Come as you are. You'll be loved.

Tom Severson

Tom Severson

Tom has been Senior Pastor at Vineyard Church of Elgin since 1995. An Elgin resident since he was a teenager, he graduated from Judson College in 1981. Tom and his wife, Jill, have been married over 27 years and have seven children and five grandchildren. Tom's heart beats for Jesus to be glorified in all circumstances. In 2001, he survived a stabbing from a homeless man he was ministering to, and God used this attack to change our pastor and our church radically. Who Holds the Knife, written by Tom and his son Lane, tells what happened from each of their points of view and describes how God turned this evil into good in their family’s lives. Echoes of God's grace, forgiveness and mercy resound in their story, inspiring hope and trust for even the darkest of times.
