We are TheROOM: a group of Followers of Christ, with a craving to BElieve, BElong, BEcome… Just Be. At our core is a refusal to get caught up in “doing” church; we would rather “BE” the church. We’re convinced that everyone has been given a measure of creativity, innovation, and uniqueness. Woven together, they shape the fabric of one’s unique contribution to the world. Our desire is to create an experience that will inspire people to live passionately, fueled by their God given gifts and potential.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our Sunday gatherings can’t really be explained; they must be experienced. However, you can expect to sing, dance, laugh, drink coffee, enjoy community, and be engaged in creative conversations about the scriptures. There is no dress code or anything of that nature. You come as you are but on any given Sunday you may leave transformed.

What is the community like?
TheROOM is a non-denominational community, not as interested in doing church as we are busy being the church. During Christ time on earth, Jesus accused the “church people” of adding layers of rules and traditions to God’s pure word. He challenged them to remove the layers and in the process, find him. That’s what we want!

A native of Chicago yet descendant of El Salvador, Joel claims the world as his home; the human soul as his canvas. Alongside his wife (Sofia), and son Silas, Joel leads the community called TheROOM. An artist at heart and poet at soul, Joel enjoys the craft of design, the art of creating, and the risk of believing. His passion is people.
