St. Joseph AME Church was established in 1869 and remains a socially relevant and community-oriented body of believers. We are deeply engaged in bettering lives, through both service and philanthropic means. We offer both contemporary and traditional worship, at our respective 8am and 11am services. Our members are leaders in every aspect of the Durham community. We welcome you, either in person or on line.

Leadership
Rev. Dr. Jay Augustine
Dr. Jonathan C. Augustine (aka “Pastor Jay” Augustine) is St. Joseph AME Church’s 31st pastor. He was assigned to serve the congregation on May 4, 2019, by Bishop James Levert Davis, after serving as senior pastor of Historic St. James AME Church in New Orleans. Dr. Augustine graduated from Howard University and served as a decorated US Army officer before earning his law degree at Tulane University. He subsequently graduated from United Theological Seminary and completed a fellowship at Princeton Theological Seminary, before earning his doctorate at Duke University. Pastor Jay is married to St. Joseph’s First Lady, Sister Michelle Burks Augustine. They have two children.Location & Directions
