A place to reconnect your spirit without disconnecting your mind.

St. David’s is a church where asking the right questions is more important than having the right answers. We treasure and honor the ages-old heritage of Christian faith and practice, while at the same time encouraging spiritual and intellectual exploration.

We are inspired and guided by the story of the first generation of Christians, who called themselves followers of “the way.” They tried to live in the world as Jesus of Nazareth did: trusting God, loving one another, celebrating life, living without fear. They found that this way of life is one that nurtures the human spirit and forges a connection with the Spirit of God.

Our members come from many different faith backgrounds: Episcopal, Catholic, several varieties of Protestant, Buddhist, and “none of the above.” Our intention is to be a place where spirits are nurtured and pilgrims are helped along their way. If you are on a spiritual journey, or looking for a place to begin one, you are welcome here.

You are invited to walk our 11-circuit garden labyrinth, modeled on famous Chartres Cathedral labyrinth, at any time, and to join us for traditional spoken worship on Sunday at 8 am, or for contemporary-language worship with music at 9:30 am. Children of any age are most welcome.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We are a "liturgical" church, which means that we follow the ancient pattern of Christian worship: readings from scripture, sermon, prayers, and Holy Communion. Worship leaders wear liturgical vestments. Our style is quite informal, however, and while a few worshipers may wear traditional Sunday dress clothes, most are more casually dressed, especially in summer. Please feel free to come as you are! Our 8:00 AM service is traditional language (Rite I) with no music. At 9:30 AM the service is modern language (Rite II), with hymns and anthems that are both traditional and modern, accompanied by grand piano and organ. During the school year, "Godly Play," a Montessori-based children's program, takes place during the first part of this service.

What is the community like?
Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, from blue-collar workers to professionals with advanced degrees. We have members of all ages, though like our island, we have a high proportion of retirees. The level of education tends to be high. Our members come from many different faith backgrounds: Episcopal, Catholic, several varieties of Protestant, Buddhist, and “none of the above.” We are distinctly and explicitly Christian, but not dogmatic. Our congregation tends to be liberal, both theologically and politically, but also includes members who are quite conservative. People who are likely to be comfortable here are those who like to make up their own minds, and are willing to grant others the freedom to do the same.
