Our Services

What are services like?
7:45-8:30 AM       Traditional Rite II Episcopal Rite II from the Book of Common Prayer. Music provided but without choir or congregational singing. Approximately 45 minutes in length. 9:00-9:50 AM       Contemporary Rite III The form resembles a regular Episcopal Rite II service, with a few changes. The prayers come from the community and a unique Eucharistic Prayer, approved by the Bishop, is used. The biggest difference, though, is the music. Drawn from a variety of sources, it is contemporary, singable, up-tempo and upbeat in most cases. The words are projected on a wall. The sermon is approximately the same as the early and late services, perhaps more dialogical at times. This is intended to be a very kid and family-friendly service.  Coffee hour begins before the contemporary service ends and ends after the blended service begins. The idea is to allow both the contemporary and blended services to share a common time of fellowship. 10:15-11:10 AM   Sunday School Sunday School will begin with the children gathering to sing in the parish hall. When all are gathered, the children head upstairs for their classes. At communion, during the third service (approximately 11:10), they are dismissed to either leave with their parents, for those who attended the contemporary service, or join their parents in the blended service. This schedule allows for either option. During this time, parents who have attended the contemporary service may wish to engage in a bible or other study, or simply continue their fellowship. 10:30-11:30 AM   Blended Rite II This is similar to the Traditional Service, but includes congregational and choir singing. Coffee Hour occurs prior to the service, allowing for fellowship with members who attend the Contemporary Service.

What is the community like?
We are are a growing community with members of all ages to include many young families & children. Worship in all Episcopal Churches is based on our central document of worship The Book of Common Prayer. The physical setting, music, formality, and other elements of worship can range from traditional to contemporary with varying degrees of formality. At St. Augustine’s you will find a relaxed setting and casual atmosphere blended with respect for traditions and interpreted scripture. Don't worry about a "dress code"- we started meeting in a barn in 1980 & have kept that same small church feel. So wear what's ever comfortable for you. You will find people in skirts and slacks and shorts and jeans. God is interested in who you are, not what you wear. So come as you are! We welcome children of all ages as active participants in our worship. During school months, our Sunday School/Christian Formation program offers youngsters Pre-School age thru High School an opportunity to have a faith experience of their own and then join their parents for Communion. Childcare is also available for children younger than preschool age, and children are also welcome to stay with you during any service.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Come! Join us! You will be greeted at the door with a bulletin, name tag and a welcome gift. Sit wherever you like! We promise not to make you stand up and introduce yourself, though parishioners are likely to introduce themselves to YOU as we are a friendly bunch. You are invited to participate in all aspects of the service or just sit, observe, and become acquainted. After the service, we invite you to sign our guest book and stick around for coffee and treats. Greeters, clergy and other members of the congregation will be happy to welcome and assist you with any questions you may have.
