Who We Are

Drawing people into a deeper knowledge of, love of, and service to the Lord

We gladly welcome you to our church home, trusting that if you are seeking Christ, you will find him here. We strive to be an active force for good in our community, while also nurturing the spiritual growth of each individual.

We have three services on Sunday morning:
8:00 Our most traditional service
9:15 "Come and See" a less formal service with creative liturgy and music
10:30 A Prayer Book service in modern English, with choir and traditional hymns
Also at 10:30 Children's Chapel with activities and worship designed especially for our youngest parishioners.

The youth of the parish have many opportunities for growth, fellowship, and service, led by a full time Youth Director. Our Youth Group for Middle and High School students meets weekly for fellowship, formation, and fun, and participates in a number of service projects annually, both locally and at various mission locations. Acolytes are a vital part of all services and an opportunity for service for youth in grades 3 through 12.

Music is a priority and infuses our services joy and depth. Under the direction of a full-time Minister of Music, we enjoy adult and youth choirs, as well hand bell and guitar choirs.

One of the most important group of ministries of St. Andrew's is our outreach to the hungry and homeless of Newport News and beyond and our mission support to locations such as the Holy Cross Anglican School in Belize.

St. Andrew’s Day School
St. Andrew’s has a fully accredited day school that has been offering quality education to boys and girls, from preschool through 5th grade for over sixty years. We welcome children of all faiths who seek to grow in mind, body and spirit. Our rigorous academic program challenges students who leave us fully prepared for the next level of education.

We hope you will visit us trusting that when you do, you will find our service to be meaningful and uplifting and invite you to become a regular part of our parish family.

What to Expect

What are services like?
All services are based on the 1979 Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. The 8:00 Sunday service is always a Rite I Holy Communion Service without music. It is a meditative service and includes a short homily. The 9:00 "Come and See" Sunday service is informal and is a Rite III Holy Communion Service with contemporary music. Participants share their glimpses of God. The 10:30 service is a Rite II Holy Communion Service on all Sundays except the last Sunday of the month when a joint Morning Prayer & Holy Communion Service is celebrated. Healing Stations are available on the 1st Sunday of each month. Choir led music is a part of all these services. The Sermon is based on the scripture readings appointed for that Sunday. A Healing and Rite II Holy Communion Service is celebrated each Wednesday at 11:00 am.

What is the community like?
All age groups are well represented and there are varied activities suited to each. The parish is large enough to be able to provide varied and interesting programs while being small enough to act as a family. Saint Andrew's Episcopal School (Pre-K thru 5th grade) is an integral part of church life and enriches the students and the parishioners. All are invited to the School Chapel Service that starts off each day at 8:30 in the sanctuary.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All are welcome, regardless of where you are in your faith journey. Given the variety of services and activities available you should find something that speaks to you. Key to who we are is exemplified by our vision: "We of St. Andrew's are called to draw people into a deeper knowledge of, love of, and service to the Lord."

From the moment we first walked through the doors to visit St. Andrew’s, we knew we were home! We had found our long-sought-after community of faith and were welcomed warmly and immediately. The hand of peace, fellowship, faith, and friendship was extended, and remains that way. There is a service, Bible Study, or class to accommodate everyone’s needs. Now, three years later, we cannot imagine life without St. Andrew’s. Come for a visit and see for yourselves.

St. Andrew's Church is very welcoming - it is a real family without being suffocating. There are many opportunities for real service and worship is varied and heartfelt. I have been an Episcopalian for over 60 years and have worshiped in many churches both in the States and overseas as well and can honestly say that I have never felt more comfortable than in St. Andrew's.
