Rev. Brenda Johnson is a passionate preacher, pastor, and ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, bringing nearly four decades of faithful ministry and leadership to the people she serves. Called to ministry at a young age, she has devoted her life to preaching the gospel, nurturing spiritual growth, and strengthening the church’s witness in the world. Since 2022, Rev. Johnson has served as Senior Pastor of Shiloh AME Church in Galveston, Texas. Her pastoral leadership is marked by a strong emphasis on worship, discipleship, stewardship, and community engagement. Under her leadership, Shiloh has expanded outreach through initiatives such as a community food pantry, secured grant funding to support ministry, enhanced campus safety, and developed meaningful partnerships to serve the broader community. Rev. Johnson has previously served congregations throughout the Tenth Episcopal District, including Evangelist Chapel AME Church in Houston and Primm Chapel AME Church in La Marque, where she was the first woman appointed as pastor. At each appointment, she is known for revitalizing congregational life, strengthening stewardship practices, increasing membership, and fostering ministries that address both spiritual and practical needs. In addition to her pastoral service, Rev. Johnson is deeply engaged in the connectional life of the AME Church. She has served in numerous elected and appointed roles at the district, conference, and episcopal levels, offering steady leadership, sound governance, and a commitment to excellence in ministry. She is especially passionate about mentoring clergy and lay leaders and supporting the next generation of church leadership. Complementing her ministry, Rev. Johnson brings more than 22 years of senior executive leadership experience in continuing education, experience she thoughtfully applies to strategic planning, leadership development, and institutional strengthening within the church. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (summa cum laude) and has completed doctoral coursework in assessment and evaluation. Rev. Johnson and her husband, Bro. James Johnson have been married for over three decades. Guided by her life scripture, “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58), Rev. Johnson leads with faith, compassion, and a deep love for God’s people.
