About Us

A Mighty Church With A Global Mission to Make Disciples for Christ

The African Methodist Episcopal Church, usually called the A.M.E. Church, is the oldest independent Protestant denomination founded by blacks in the world. The AME church was not founded in Africa, nor is it only for persons of African descent. The AME church is open and welcoming to people of all ethnicities, origins, nationalities and colors. The African Methodist Episcopal Church has a unique history as it is the first major religious denomination in the western world that developed because of sociological rather than theological differences. It was the first African-American denomination organized and incorporated in the United States. The church was born in protest against racial discrimination and slavery. The church's roots are in the Methodist church. Members of St. George's Methodist Church left the congregation when faced with racial discrimination, but continued with the Methodist doctrine and the order of worship.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services represent a combination of the familiar elements of Methodist worship and a contemporary ministry service. Our music is a collection of traditional hymns and modern gospel music. There’s something for children as well, a children's message is provided during the worship experience for ages twelve and under. A worship guide will be provided to you by one of our friendly ushers or church members. You will find the order of service, lyrics to the featured hymns, the scripture used for the sermon and the weekly announcements. Our 10:45 am worship service generally lasts about 90 minutes. On First Sundays we remember Christ suffering, death, and resurrection as we serve communion. The first Sunday service typically lasts about 120 minutes. We welcome you to worship with us as we worship and praise Jesus Christ our risen savior.
