Sherman Street Christian Reformed Church

Who We Are

To be a living testimony of God's grace and justice in the city.

Sherman Street Christian Reformed Church is an urban church located in the Baxter neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our congregation was established in 1907, and we have worshiped in the same building for over a century. Though in many ways we are much different than those who founded the church, our congregation still is a family of men and women, children and young people who trust that God works wonders through ordinary people like us!

David Kromminga

David Kromminga has been a pastor for 26 years, first at All Nations Christian Reformed Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and now for the past 12 years at Sherman Street. The church is less than a mile away from where he spent the first 20 years of his life. He graduated from Calvin College and Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids. Having only lived in and served churches in urban areas, David loves cities with their quirky people and places; but he also loves the beauty of the natural world, particularly as found in Nova Scotia and northern Michigan. He has a passion for preaching with a pastoral heart for a wide variety of people and for developing authentic Christian community in the church. Experiences of the diversity of God’s worldwide church have always inspired him. David believes in the power of God’s Word and Spirit to make Jesus’ presence known.
