Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church

About Us

Where faith and family find a home...

We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. About 120 of us worship each week at 10 a.m. from Sept--May, and at 9 a.m. from June-August.. We have Sunday School for all ages during the school year. On Wednesday afternoons during the school year, we have a special class for 7th and 8th graders who are preparing to receive this congregation's confirmation of their faith. Our demogragphics are best described as "whole family", with 3-4 generations represented in worship each Sunday. We host the Elk Mound Food Pantry, as well as a food distribution ministry called "Ruby's Pantry" every 4th Saturday of the month (except November 2012, when we will distribute the Tuesday before Thanksgiving). Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
Sunday worship is quite traditional. We celebrate communion the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Wednesday night worship is quite different; we study the same Bible Story that the Sunday School will study the following Sunday; we discuss the story in small groups after Pastor's teaching, then we gather in a circle for prayers and communion. The music is led by guitars, piano, and a small group of singers. There is no formal "liturgy", and anyone is welcome to ask questions at any time.

What is the community like?
The Village of Elk Mound is small (800 or so residents) but in growing Zip-code and school district (50% growth in 10 years!). We are a fairly conservative community politically, but passionate about caring for each other. We have 4 different congregations in the village (Lutheran, Catholic, Methodist, and Apostolic Pentecostal) who partner together for food pantry ministry, a monthly 4th-Tuesday potluck at 5:30 p.m. at one of our church buildings, and the celebration of our high school graduates with a baccalaureate service on Sunday night in May.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Then you are MOST welcome!!
