About Us

Spirit & Light in Action

Eau Claire Friends Meeting is a small group of individuals, families and friends who come together to create a caring spiritual community. We meet as equals to pool our spiritual resources, supporting one another in our discernment of the Light and in our efforts to live toward it. Our Meeting offers companionship for our spiritual journeying, spiritual grounding for our children, and a base for living our values, especially through simplicity and actions that encourage social justice. Our Meeting offers us the strength and guidance that comes from deep historical roots and an evolving and changing life of the Spirit in the manner of the Religious Society of Friends.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We gather, in traditional language, in "expectant waiting on the Lord". That is, we sit in a circle, in silence, listening to the small, still voice of the Spirit, sometimes sharing out of the silence the promptings of the Spirit. We have no ritual, no order of service, just shared worship or meditation or prayer or though or reflection, as each is led, but which sometimes lead to deep tenderness and connection with the Light, something we call a "gathered meeting". After the hour of our worship we visit, share a bit from our lives, and cement our friendship.

What if I'm not a Christian?
There is a wide variety of belief in Eau Claire Quakers. Because we have no creed or litmus test, and because we connect in the space beyond words, the usual beliefs, words, or dogmas are irrelevant. We share an experience rather than a thought or doctrine. While many may identify with Jesus, others may, and do, identify with other spiritual sources, or none at all.
