Sayville Congregational United Church of Christ

Who We Are

Ancient and new and refreshingly not crazy!

Sayville Congregational United Church of Christ is a progressive Christian covenant community serving the South Shore since 1858. Located in a historic building, we are anything but old-fashioned! An “Open and Affirming” congregation, we welcome the LGBT community, not to mention scientists, thinkers, skeptics and refugees from other traditions. De-churched, re-churched and un-churched, we’re just plain folks looking for a fulfilling way of life, a motley crew that laughs, cooks and plays together. Join us to see how life on the Way of Jesus can change your life… then help us change the world!

Our mission, as defined by scripture, is to deepen our own faith through worship and faith development, to make disciples by sharing the joy we find in living as members of a Christian covenant community, and to build the just and caring Kingdom of God through prophetic witness, direct action, and through care of the vulnerable and impoverished.

SCUCC is lead by a Unicameral Board made up of members and is served by our pastor, the Rev. J. Gary Brinn.

Our Services

Service Times

Sunday
  • 10:15am - Our primary blended worship
  • 06:00pm - Our [alt/church] contemporary service

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our morning services are down-to-earth with a blend of traditional and contemporary forms. Most services are centered around the teaching of the Word, with the Lord's Supper once a month and occasional healing services. Our [alt/church] worship gathering is a small informal setting in a contemporary style.

What is the community like?
Our diverse community draws from throughout the South Shore region, attracting progressive Christians as well as members of the LGBT community looking for a faith home. As a re-vitalizing church, we are exploring new and emergent forms of faith, preserving the heart of Christ's teachings while adapting to new contexts.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We are a church that welcomes skeptics and doubters, the un-churched and de-churched. While we hope that all who come through our doors will choose to follow the Way of Jesus, you will always find a home here among our passionate and compassionate covenant community.
