Open and Welcoming

A growing congregation in the Capital City where prayer changes people and people change things: Building Strong and Committed Disciples. Our outreach includes Tuedays Bible Study Academy (Bible Basics and Beyond), Wednedays Mid/Day and Meal Ministry, Carol J. Greer Center Programs, Health Opportunities and Wellness for People Everywhere (HOW, Inc), Annual Lonnie D. Johnson Health Education Memorial, Music Ministry (Adult Traditional, Youth and Young Adult, Contemporary Ansemble, Sons of God Choir, and Children's Choir, Food Pantry, and Children's Bell Choir.

What to Expect

What are services like?
First Sundays are typically traditional to include Holy Communion. Second Sundays are youthful with participation from the Children's Bell Choir and Total Praise Dancers. Third Sundays are a bit youthful because of the Holy Communion (serving the children first). Fourth Sundays are a mixture of tradition and contemporary with the Rejoice Contemporary Ensemble and the Total Praise Dancers. Fifth Sundays the children, youth, and young adults have total responsibility for the service including the sermon.

What is the community like?
The community is predominantly white, conservative, and aging. The congregants are communiters, predominantly Black/African American, progressive, church (only 25 years old). We have same-gender couples, many families with gay or lesbian child (ren), and a ministerial team that practices an encourages the congregation to BE an open, welcoming, radically hospitable, inclusive justice-centeredness, unconditional love of God seeking people of faith.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We have individuals who do not claim to be Christian. Who you follow, if anyone, is between you and your Divine one.
