Pastor Mike Smith was born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN. He had been a meat cutter for 20 years before hearing God’s call to ministry. He has served three other churches and was a hospice chaplain for the last 12 years prior to coming to Norris Chapel. He was the chaplain for Fort Wayne Fire Depts. for three years. He is married to Linda and they have been married for 45 years. They have two daughters, Andria and Amber and both are married and live Indianapolis, IN. His hobby is designing and building stained glass windows for over 30 years and works on glass projects almost every day. He has an identical twin brother, Mark which he and Pastor Mike are considered mirror twins as Mark is left-handed and Pastor Mike is right-handed. They attend the Twinsburg Twins Festival every year where over 2400 sets of twins from all over the world gather. Both Linda and Pastor Mike are humbled and excited to be part of Norris Chapel. They both felt loved and welcomed. They would like to “Thank” Norris Chapel for their hospitality. As he is still getting his feet wet as he is gleaning as much information about Norris Chapel, committees, and congregation. His first impression of Norris Chapel is of a friendly, compassionate, spirit-filled and well-led church. Pastor Mike has comes to Norris Chapel without an agenda and wants to be a part of its great legacy through his leadership and pastoral care. He loves the Book of Joshua and especially Chapter One. Moses has just died and now God wants Joshua to lead the Israelites, but Joshua seems a little apprehensive about being the new leader. God says to Joshua in verse nine, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous”. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse has given Pastor Mike great strength throughout his life as it lets him know God is near and will always be with him in all situations. Pastor Mike hopes Norris Chapel will find strength in this Scripture as well. God will be leading us together into the future and He expects us to do so, being “Strong and Courageous”. God has never failed Pastor Mike, yet and he knows as Norris Chapel work together building His church and bring the lost to salvation, God will always be there with us.
