Our Services

What are services like?
Services are participatory. The "service" is to God, not to the congregation. Come prepared to participate in multi-ethnic worship! The service is in English; and we read Scripture together in different languages, pray together in small groups, give, hear a biblical sermon, and sing together in different languages. We welcome all ethnicities. Come and see what Jesus meant when he prayed for unity in John 17.

What is the community like?
Multi-Ethnic and relational. Wear what you want. You will feel welcomed and be a part of welcoming all ethnicities who come. We love each other despite our differences. We are comfortable feeling uncomfortable when necessary to preserve unity. We serve God by serving others with no strings attached. We try to multiply ourselves as individual disciples/followers/students of Jesus Christ, and in small groups and corporate bodies. The church accepts financial gifts, but the pastor is a volunteer. It means no harsh sermons on giving to "meet the budget," no fights or splits over money. We don't need any to survive. We pay no rent and no power bill. We support missionaries and local missions.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All faiths (or those with no faith) are welcomed with no strings attached. If you are not a Christian, you will get to see a Christian community living life together in loving, messy, authentic relationships. You will be surprised at the lack of hateful judgement. You will be surprised by people's humility. You will be surprised that we don't want your money. Jesus doesn't need money! What he wants is YOU :) wholeheartedly surrendered.

Derrick Smith

Derrick Smith is a native of Spartanburg. Meghan, his wife, is a missionary kid from Ecuador. After they both graduated from seminary they moved back to South Carolina to begin church planting among international peoples in Spartanburg. Derrick is currently the church planting pastor of Kaleidoscope Multi-Ethnic Fellowship in Spartanburg. Kaleidoscope began 3 years ago with the purpose of ministering to under-reached people groups in a multi-ethnic setting. The church seeks to welcome, love and serve people with the goal of multiplying our group of believers. Kaleidoscope has offered English classes, works with international college students, and seeks to build authentic cross cultural relationships with the intention of Christ-like discipleship. During seminary they owned and operated Golden Apple Tutoring, a one-on-one math tutoring business. Derrick currently teaches AP Calculus full-time at Dorman and runs Upstate Test Prep teaching SAT classes throughout the year. They have 2 sons, Moses and Solomon, and another baby boy due this Christmas.
