About Us

We believe that the news that Jesus of Nazareth is risen and is in charge of things is the best news this world has ever known. It is news meant for joy, and we do indeed enjoy it here at Immanuel, through our hymns, Sunday School, preaching, choir, and the mutual fellowship and support of our members.
Our congregation is one of the historic Lutheran churches in town, going back to the middle of the Civil War, 1863. We are a member of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC), and we offer a traditional vision of the Gospel.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We worship God with love and reverence in the great liturgical tradition of the church, with preaching centered upon the Scripture, and joyful singing of praises to the Lord with hymns from the great Lutheran and wider church treasuries.

What is the community like?
Friendly, relaxed, with a mix of "old school" Lutherans and more recent converts, of all ages and from all kinds of different backgrounds. There are opportunities to volunteer in a program providing meals to the homebound, and/or for service in our choir and/or in a variety of roles to support and enrich the worship of God in our church.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You are welcome to attend our liturgies, listen to the Gospel, and pray and sing to whatever degree feels comfortable to you! You are also welcome to Bible Study and other classes as they are available. If you should desire to be baptized, just speak to our Pastor.
