About Us

A group of peace-makers who believe that faith should lead to compassion and social justice action.

We're followers of Jesus committed to loving God and all people. We believe in peace-making and social justice - because of our faith, not in spite of it. We would love to welcome you!

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
We’re a vibrant, friendly, small community and we love being together. So any given Sunday morning, you’ll probably walk in on us chatting and enjoying each other’s company, sipping coffee, and listening to music. We’re casual in our dress, with everything from jeans and t-shirts to sweaters, skirts, and a very occasional tie. You’ll likely be greeted warmly by several members. We’ll hand you a bulletin (program), and invite you to grab a warm cup of Fair Trade coffee and to make yourself at home. Our sanctuary is arranged in the "round," reflecting our embrace of every voice and the beauty that we're not alone. It also contains symbols that are meaningful to our faith community, such as the windows, and the original cross from our first building. Houston Mennonite's first home was a building at the same address that was torn down in March 2018 after 50 years of service. Our worship is engaging, and filled with a variety of singing styles, children’s story, scripture reading, an open sharing and prayer time, group discussions, and a sermon by our pastor, Marty Troyer, or a member. We’re made stronger when guests join us for worship. Children of all ages are welcome at HMC! We have a children’s message in each worship service before kids 0 - 10 leave the sanctuary for Children's Church or Sunday School. Our building is simple, reflecting our hope to find goodness in the little things of life, and also very new, opening officially for Sunday worship on March 11, 2018. We're still learning how we fit our new space so please bear with us as we find out :) We look forward to meeting you!

What is the community like?
We're multi-generational and from a variety of backgrounds and countries. We're generally very casual and there's a family feel to our activities and events. We hope that everyone would feel at home with us.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We don't have any expectations! You are just as welcome if you're not a Christian; come along some time and see what we're all about and where you might fit. If you have questions, we're happy to talk, but we're also happy to let you take things at your own pace.
