Who We Are

"We desire to be a multi-ethnic community where people in every season of life can experience the love and grace of Jesus Christ. As our motto indicates, we strive to be a church for every person, every race, and every situation.
It is with great delight that we are seeing this happen as people are finding healing and grace for their difficult situations, enjoying friendships with people of different ethnicities and experiencing a real community where they can grow in their love for God.
In many respects, we desire to be a hospital for our local community - full of hope, love and support."

Our Services

What are services like?
Our worship lasts one hour and 15 minutes on average. The preaching is biblical and relevant for all ages and life situations. The music is contemporary with drums, guitars, bass, and violin. We incorporate hymns with a contemporary style. We strive to create an authentic environment by using testimonies, times of question and answer and reflection. People are welcomed to come dressed however they wish with some coming in ties and many in jeans. We encourage people to feel comfortable as they worship.

What is the community like?
We are a community that is diverse racially with individuals from Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic-American, Filipino and Indian nationalities. We are a community comprised of people from every age bracket, old to young. We are a community that is equally represented by white-collar and blue-collar families. We are a community that has educational diversity with those with little or no education to people having advanced degrees.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We desire to show compassion and truth to the world. As a church, we believe every person has the unique opportunity to make a difference for Jesus Christ in their workplaces, neighborhoods and family environments. We encourage people to develop relationships with people of all walks of life, showing love and grace, rather than pulling away from the world. We intentionally teach compassion rather than judgment towards the world, desiring to be a light to our communities.

I have been the teaching pastor at the church for the past twelve years. I have been married for the past fifteen years to a beautiful woman named Penny. I have two children. I enjoy sports and sailing. My wife enjoys painting and reading. We both love history and traveling. Prior to coming to Harvard Avenue, we served in London, England for one year as associate pastor and wife. This was a wonderful time for us. We both graduated from Wheaton College, after which I attended seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, graduating in 1998. I am originally from Michigan and my wife is from Virginia. We truly enjoy ministry, desiring to partner together as we serve God’s people in the local church. We love the local church, and desire to nurture God’s people to love Him with all their heart, mind, soul and strength for the glory of Jesus Christ!
