Hartford Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

About Us

Silent, unprogrammed worship

Hartford Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) is a small (30 to 50 Friends attending at any given time) congregation who come together Sunday mornings at 10 am for silent, un-programmed worship together. We do not have a pastor, and we do not have music during our services, although there is sometimes intergenerational singing before meeting for worship begins. The nature of our worship is contemplative and quiet, although messages are sometimes heard when a Friend is moved by the Spirit to speak to our condition from the depths of her consciousness. On most Sundays, children's activities are available, as well as religious education. More descriptive material is available at the meetinghouse.

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
The services are quiet, contemplative and are not led by a pastor. There is no program or set liturgy to the services.

What is the community like?
The community tends to be socially conscious, environmentally aware, and peace oriented.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We have a number of members who do not describe themselves as Christian, or even deity-oriented. Similarly we have members who are Christ-led and Christ centered. Our particular form of worship, in not requiring the recitation of particular forms of dogma, makes room for people of diverse experience and diverse beliefs.
