What to Expect

What are services like?
There's no dress code, but you won't look out of place if you want to dress up, either. We're just glad to see one another and will be glad to see you, too. Some of us like to sit near the front; others like to be at the back. There's couch seating in the very back, so those with physical needs or small children can be more at ease. School-age children stay with us for the first part of the service and then usually go for their own lesson during the sermon. Our music is a mix of new songs and traditional hymns, and you can follow along with what's happening in the service with our paper or app bulletin. We start with a "call to worship" that reminds us what we're here to do: focus on God. This is a passage of the Bible that celebrates a particular thing about God. Then, we sing together and someone leads us all in prayer. We read the Bible passage that the speaker is focusing on for that day, and then there's a sermon on that passage, explaining it and helping us think through how to apply it to our lives. Once a month, we take the Lord's Supper together. Also once a month, we have a special focus on missions. During that time, we might hear from a missionary we support, discuss a special project (like providing hurricane relief), or talk about one of the organizations we support regularly or partner with in some way.

What is the community like?
We're a small but close-knit community, and our focus is pretty simple: the #1 reason we gather is to worship God together. We do that primarily through prayer, song, and by submitting ourselves to God's Word as we read it, study it, and listen to it preached. Our second reason for gathering is to love and encourage one another. We pray with and for each other, encourage each other, and love to EAT together. We have a fellowship meal once a month, but it's a rare Sunday when there's nothing in the kitchen to enjoy with coffee before or after the service while we fellowship. We also get together at other times throughout the year. There's a special meal the Sunday before Thanksgiving, events at Christmas, breakfast on Easter Sunday, BBQs in the summer, pie on Father's Day, breakfast on Mother's Day, and occasional outings to parks or homes. We also have men's and women's fellowship meals or game days at various times during the year.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We say, like the people who met Jesus and then went to get their friends, "Come and see!"
