First Presbyterian Church of Racine

About Us

First Presbyterian is a family of faith centered on a belief in Jesus Christ. Grounded in that belief, we seek to follow Christ’s way in our world—loving God with heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving neighbor as self.

Like most families, we’re not all the same. We all have experienced God’s presence in different ways. Some of us grew up as Presbyterians (or Methodists, or Lutherans, or Catholics…) and have come to trust the church as an institution. Others might playfully consider themselves “spiritually hungry, but institutionally suspicious.” Together we seek to honor our traditions while we open ourselves to the new things God is doing in our midst. Through it all, we hope that our very lives bear witness to Christ—that our worship, our learning, our service, and our love all point to the all-encompassing love of God in Jesus Christ.

What to Expect

What are services like?
At First Presbyterian Church, you'll discover that we are truly a family of faith that loves to be together, especially when we gather to worship our God. We use liturgy as a framework for our church services, forming them around traditional elements that beautifully express our need for God and remind us of God's love for us. On top of our liturgical framework, we add a variety of elements that truly make worship at First Presbyterian Church unique. Since our church family is diverse in age, background, political viewpoint, and taste in worship, we try to include elements that represent and honor the diversity in our community. Our worship services are eclectic. From week to week, you'll hear all different kinds of music. Guitars, choir, children's choir, hand bells, piano, organ, African drum, mandolin, violin... it's all part of the musical mix at First Presbyterian. As a church family, we join together musically not only to worship God but also to communicate God's presence. Additionally, our church works to include people of all ages in our worship services. This includes traditional worship elements that makes older members feel at home, thought-provoking sermons that are appreciated by all ages, and special elements for young children in worship. We have a children's sermon each week, children's bulletins and worship bags filled with activities for kids to do during our worship time. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to join us in worship at First Presbyterian Church.

What is the community like?
Community is extremely important to First Presbyterian Church. In fact, we consider ourselves more of a family than an institution. As a church, we recognize that being a part of a faith family means that we are committed to one another, through all of life's good times and bad times. This commitment is reflected in hospital visits made, care packages sent, visits made to grieving families, cards mailed, food donated, phone calls made, meals shared and in all kinds of other ways! Our community loves visitors and greets them with open arms. In addition to our 9:30 A.M. Sunday worship service, we have lots of opportunities for people to get plugged into our community throughout the week. These include: choir, bell choir, a book club, a Tuesday evening crafting group and Bible study, a Wednesday noon Bible study, a seniors' group, a women's group, taize worship services, an intercessory prayer group, a dinner party group, a Sunday evening service on the first Sunday of each month, and more!

What if I'm not a Christian?
