About Us

Welcome Home

First Christian Church is a loving family of committed disciples of Christ. Empowered by an intimate and challenging weekly worship, we strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our world . We hold only one creed close to our hearts; Christ's love and grace offered freely to all people. In that spirit, we celebrate the Lord's Supper every week, welcoming all who are hungry, whether in spirit or in body, to come eat at the welcome table! Most importantly, we are "learners," centering our lives on the patient, prayerful study of Holy Scripture, whose wisdom guides every aspect of our life together. First Christian seeks to be a safe place for all who are seeking Christ. We welcome your questions, your spiritual gifts, and most of all...you.

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
Worship Services: Sundays @ 9:30am. First Christian Church maintains its roots in the historic church with a creative flair. We celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday and welcome all believers in Jesus Christ to the Table. We are part of what's called the "free church" tradition, which means that you can expect worship that is deeply rooted in scripture as well as diverse in both music and liturgy. Christian Education [Sunday school] : Sundays @ 10:45 am FCC is a "learning church," placing the patient and prayerful study of Holy Scripture at the very center of our life together. We host two adult Sunday school classes. One for the residents of Sunny Meadows [a county home for adults who are differently abled both emotionally and developmentally]. The other is a regular class offered at seasonal intervals in 6-8 week studies, led by laypersons or by Pastor Sivis.

What is the community like?
We are a mix of younger families and retired couples with a few youth and young adults sprinkled in. Many of our members are from blue-collar working families as well as farming families. Some of us have overcome great struggles and have found a home here through ministries like the soup kitchen we host on Fridays in collaboration with the DeKalb Community Impact Corporation [http://www.dciconline.org/] We are a theologically diverse congregation. People on every point of the spectrum of belief [from Conservative, to Liberal / Progressive, to Moderate] can be found here at FCC, worshiping and serving together as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are an ecumenical church, inviting all Christians from all traditions to worship and serve with us. For the last two years, we have been pleased to share our facilities with Auburn Baptist Church, while they seek to expand into a larger facility. FCC is proud of this partnership and we look forward to making our home a home for all Christians or new churches that are seeking to grow in Christ.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Come and visit us! Get to know the community and see if you think you might consider joining us as we follow the way of Jesus. Our traditions are simple. We believe that all who confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior are Christians. Period. If you have not had the chance to make that confession, an invitation to do so is given every Sunday at the conclusion of the Sermon. Before deciding to make your confession, please feel free to speak with Pastor Betty, who will be more than happy to guide you as you begin your journey.
