Our Services

What are services like?
Emmaus Road worship events include song, sacrament, scripture, and prayer, usually lasting about an hour. Participation is encouraged and invited, but not forced. Readings are interspersed between music; sermons usually stretch fifteen to twenty minutes. Children of different age groups are offered options, including Godly Play, though all ages are welcome to remain throughout the service, as parents choose.

What is the community like?
People who identify with Emmaus Road have discovered the benefits of SMALL CHURCH < BIG IMPACT. This includes an eclectic crowd of singles, families, many young, several mature, who span the socio-economic spectrum. Each member serves in some manner, and though the majority come from a variety of Seattle neighborhoods, we have committed to focusing much of our missional energy in Belltown. Although Emmaus Road's pulpit theology is located within the Reformed tradition, folks come from a wide variety of exposure, or non-exposure, to traditional church. We are all challenged alike to discover what it means to be a follower of Christ here, and now.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Hospitality is important to Emmaus Road: this extends beyond believers to include those who doubt. While we receive and celebrate God's voice speaking through Scripture, we acknowledge people need time and space to discern God's voice from competing voices, and God's story from competing stories. We proclaim the grace and love of Jesus Christ clearly by word, but also aspire to live it out in deed; many who do not see the Gospel as we do, never-the-less join with us to serve.
