About Us

Caring, Contemporary, Community based urban multicultural congregation

St. Athanasius is the Cathedral Congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. We celebrate three Eucharistic services each Sunday: Spanish, English and Korean. There is an active youth group, weekly mid week Bible Study, Sunday adult education, a Food Bank that serves over 300 people per week, and networks of care that inspire and heal. Two full time priests support a congregation of lay ministers. Come visit us so we can welcome you St. Athanasius style!

What to Expect

What are services like?
Each language service is different, though all use traditional Episcopal liturgy with Eucharist. Spanish employs praise songs and regional music, very reverent with a great sense of humor. English uses the organ, percussion and a cantor as well as a youth choir. Music varies from traditional hymns to African and Latin American songs. The Korean service uses traditional hymns and liturgy.

What is the community like?
The people of St. Athanasius are very welcoming of new people and caring for each other. The members seek out and serve each other in beautiful ways. The Spanish group is active in the Cursillo movement, and the commitment level of the members is high.

What if I'm not a Christian?
St. Athanasius welcomes people wherever they are on their spiritual journey. A person doesn't have to believe anything in particular to participate in activities or to be loved by our members. We help people discover their own spiritual path in the midst of a supportive community.
