- In 1949 the Men's Brotherhood of Colfax Methodist Church planned to build a new church building on land across the road from the "church on the hill" that was built in 1898, on land donated by Delbert and Iretta Smith. The upper parking lot was the site of the old church. While church services were still being held in the old church, a basement was built on the new site and was used for Sunday School classes for a couple of years while the sanctuary was being completed. In 1951-52, the basement was used by Colfax Elementary School for their seventh and eighth-grade classrooms until the new addition to the school was completed. Franklin Cain taught those classes. The first sermon in the present church was held on Sunday, November 8, 1953, in the basement and was preached by Rev. O.E. McLaughlin. When the sanctuary was completed, the church bell, pulpit, and pews were removed from the old church for use in the new one. Later, new ones were purchased. In 1968-69, unification with the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church created the formation of the present United Methodist Church. In 2010, a wheelchair lift was installed in the vestibule for handicapped access to the Sunday School rooms downstairs. In 2011, more improvements were made with a new furnace, central air conditioning, and a new red metal roof.
