- About 125 years ago, a special seed was planted in the hearts of the residents of Levels, Goose Creek and Powell growing to become the Levels Church with services held in the Levels School now owned by Arden Fisher. In 1893, a new home was purchased in Colfax, WV and the "railroad" or Methodist Episcopal Church continued to grow; however, it was frequently put to the test when it was burned three times in fires sparked by passing trains. In 1904, under the leadership of Rev. J. J. Phillips, the church moved to its present location; and in 1967 four Sunday School rooms were added. Later another need for expansion was filled when bathrooms, a kitchenette, and another large room were added. With the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, a joint Vacation Bible School was created; and, in the 1980's the outreach of the church was furthered with involvement in Fairmont's Soup Opera. August 23, 2003 Levels United Methodist Church and Community Pavillion was dedicated to the "Glory of God" directly across the street from Levels Church. A new message sign was dedicated at the same time. The fragile seed originally planted in the hearts of people has blossomed, borne fruit, and continues to grow and nurture in the love and ministry of God.
