City on a Hill Church

Who We Are

Light and Love for the Community

City on a Hill Church is an evangelical, Christ-centered church where all are welcome.
We exist to stimulate a passion for Christ within the community of Culpeper and play a role in transforming Culpeper into the city on a hill that Jesus alluded to in His sermon on the Mount of Beatitudes (Matthew 5:14). This city on a hill that Jesus referenced is a place of refuge that is easy to identify because of its shining light. Overcoming selfishness, prejudice, disunity and apathy towards Christ-likeness is our call. Our prayer is for Christians in Culpeper to become the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, serving and meeting the needs of our community so that all may know how deep God’s love is for everyone who lives, works and goes to school in Culpeper. We are a group of people who will establish relationships within the community so that those who don’t have a relationship with God would be inspired to explore one as a result of experiencing the true, authentic love of Jesus Christ.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We all know what it feels like to be new someplace. It helps to know what to expect, so we’ve provided a brief glimpse of what our weekend worship service is like. At City on a Hill Church, we strive to be warm, welcoming and friendly. We’re casual in our attire, so you’ll fit right in if you enjoy wearing blue jeans and your favorite tee shirt. If you like to wear something a little nicer, you won’t feel out of place either. Our service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. We always have some delicious snacks to fill your stomach, water to quench your thirst and hot coffee to help wake you up! Our services begin with about twenty minutes of contemporary worship music. You may even hear some hymns mixed in with contemporary arrangements. Some of our music is fast paced and some is slower to help us reflect on our relationship with God. By starting with worship, our hearts and minds are better prepared to hear and receive God’s Word into our lives. Worship is followed by a time of teaching from the Bible. This message is always Biblically based. It may be topical in nature or may simply be an explanation of a particular passage of Scripture, but it will be taught in a way that is relevant to our lives today. Click here to listen to a previous message shared at COAHC. Kids are welcome to join our service, but we also offer a great children’s ministry for children. When you attend City on a Hill Church, you will feel welcomed. We also want you to get connected with other like-minded people. It’s important for Christians to have relationships that go beyond the surface. Take the time to introduce yourself and make some new friends. We look forward to seeing you here!

Leadership

GW Dameron

GW Dameron

Pastor GW Dameron is a native Virginian. He was born and raised in the Fredericksburg area where much of his family still live. A graduate of Christopher Newport University, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1991 while competing for his college’s cross-country and track and field teams. After college, Pastor GW moved to North Carolina for the next six years. Many of those years were spent pursuing a professional career in distance running. As an athlete who didn’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, athletics was the god he served. In December 1995, he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. “I grew up with an intellectual knowledge of Jesus,” says Dameron, “but I had no relationship with him. I had no idea what it meant to live my life for Christ.”In 1997, Dameron moved to San Diego, CA, and soon after felt the call to ministry. While attending Bethel Seminary, Pastor GW served in a variety of ministry roles gaining valuable experience. In 2000, he was also given the opportunity to serve as a chaplain to the athletes and coaches competing at the Olympic Track & Field Trails in Sacramento, CA. Pastor GW is a bi-vocational pastor. He works in the pharmaceutical research industry. Relying on both the Biblical and historical precedents established, he approaches ministry as a calling instead of a job and does not take away from the church resources unnecessarily. Pastor GW has been married to his wife, Carrie, since 1999. They have three daughters
