About Us
Christ the Lord, Clearwater is a neighborhood Lutheran church serving the beautiful Clearwater community. Member of WELS.
Christ the Lord, Clearwater, has been a a part of the local community since the late 1900s.
Originally founded as a Christian mission to Pinellas County, our community of Christians is now beginning its second generation as a Jesus' following, Bible-teaching, neighborhood church with the goal of sharing the Good News of Jesus on the Gulf Coast.
By connecting the warm and friendly setting of a neighborhood church together with helpful and clear Bible teaching, Christ the Lord is here to offer you encouragement and guidance in your walk with God.
Our congregation is a community supporter of Dunedin Cares Food Pantry. We partner with like-minded churches both locally and nationally as part of WELS.

Leadership
John Backus
Pastor
John Backus is the pastor of Christ the Lord, Clearwater.
First ordained in 2003, he has served in 4 congregational settings in the pacific northwest, rural and urban Wisconsin, and most recently here in Clearwater. He holds a Masters Degree in Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon WI and graduated with honors from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 1995. He has training in Hebrew and Greek.
John has served in both mission settings and established congregations, led worship teams as guitarist and vocalist, and participated in a mission work in eastern Asia. He volunteers as a Tech Team leader at professional clergy conferences in the southeastern United States, and serves as the President of the Board of Directors of a Florida non-profit charity, SLAA, which provides grants for youth ministries and supports adolescent spiritual development.
