Our Services

What are services like?
As you walk into City Church, you will notice casual and comfortable dress, free coffee and light snacks, vibrant worship led by our talented worship band, applicable and relevant teaching, and many opportunities to meet people. Our desire is not only that you connect with God on a deeper level, but that you also make connections with those around you. To see information about our current sermon series, click here. To listen to past sermons, check out our Podcast page, and check out our worship team's album (noisetrade.com/caliegarrett) for a taste of worship at City Church.

What is the community like?
City Church is made up of many UVA college students, young professionals, families with young kids, families with older kids, business professionals, and retirees. We also offer ministries that meet the needs of each one of these life stage groupings.

Pete Hartwig

Pete Hartwig

Pete came on as the lead pastor of City Church in 1997 after spending 10 years as a university pastor in New Jersey. Pete feels a unique calling to the University context, so Charlottesville is the perfect place for him and his family. He provides oversight and vision for the church staff and the many City Church ministry leaders. His pastoral passion is to see that God's Word is clearly understood through relevant and engaging teaching and that everyone who calls City Church their home walks in the fullness of God's will for every area of life. Pete loves the outdoors, local college sports, and is working towards a doctorate in Leadership. Pete married his wife Fran in 1990 and they have 3 kids: Peter (18), Allie (15), Jackie (13).
