Chapel Hill United Methodist Church was formed July 1, 1975, by the merging of the Evangel Church and the Central United Methodist Church. The first worship service was held here at Chapel Hill on September 9, 1979. We seek to help people connect with God, help people love one another and reach out in mission and ministry.

Chapel Hill is an inclusive congregation. We will see men, women, youth and children participate as ushers, greeters, choir members or liturgists. All persons regardless of age, sex or color are part of the body of Christ.

Our Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m. and then you can stay for our 10:30 service.

Worship begins each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The worship style is informal including a variety of classical, gospel and contemporary music. A time is set aside each week to share the Good News with the children, followed by Children's Worship for those in pre-school through third grade. Child care is provided in the nursery by caring adults for infants through age 4. Personal sound receivers are available as well as large print hymnals.

Our BOLD contemporary service is on Sunday evenings at 7 pm. Each Sunday is something a little different, so come join us for informal contemporary worship!

We also have open church dinners each Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Engle Hall.

We receive members by Transfer or by Profession of Faith. Transfer means you are a member of another church and want to place your membership at Chapel Hill. Profession of Faith is for those who have never belonged to a church. Members are asked to be loyal to the church and support its ministries by their prayer, presence, gifts, witness and service.

Our congregation celebrates open communion, which means it is not necessary to belong to this congregation or be baptized in order to receive communion. It essentially means that all are welcome to partake in the grace offered in communion.

Youth groups for elementary age through high school meet each Sunday. Special Bible studies are held periodically. There are choirs for all ages, youth and adult handbell choirs and Adoration, a liturgical dance group.

We invite you to visit us on Sunday mornings!

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our praise service is very laid-back with popular contemporary Christian songs rounding out our worship. We have different speakers, including the pastor and Christian Education Director. It is a smaller attendance service. We are in the process of forming a praise band, so if you have any musical gifts you are willing to share, call the church office and ask for Risë. Our Traditional worship service is a blended service with traditional hymns and more modern songs. We have a choir that sings an anthem each week, special music selections each week (soloists, handbell choir, children's choirs), scripture reading, responsive readings, community prayer, and a sermon. It is a larger attendance service, averaging over 200 each week.

What is the community like?
Our congregation is diverse in theological thought. We have those who are very progressive and those who are conservative. We have people who are involved in a variety of ministries. It is a multigenerational congregation with very small children to very mature adults. We have an active children and youth ministry, an active men's ministry, women's ministry, food ministry. There are always opportunities to serve.

What if I'm not a Christian?
While we are a Christian church, all are welcome to worship or serve with us. We recognize the value of all people and share love with all. If you are seeking to be a Christian, there will be people who can help you in your faith journey. If you are not seeking to be a Christian, but are looking for a community with which to worship or serve others, you are also welcome.
