What is the community like?
God’s assignment for us “Bring people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and nurture them to be fully devoted to following him.” Matt. 28:18-20 UMC mission How we accomplish God’s assignment: Through small group life, we spur one another on to learn his disciplines, which inspire us to love God, each other & people around us (Hebrews 3:13): Prayer: We enjoy, listen & talk to God and DO his Word. Matt. 28:20 Presence: We worship God and rest weekly and keep short accounts in regular communion. Luke 10:27 Gifts: We consecrate all of the gifts God gives us, use our spiritual gifts and tithe and sacrifice to advance God’s kingdom. Service: We take a servant attitude, loving in practical ways, building unity and praying as the Holy Spirit leads. John 15:12 Witness: We seek salvation through Christ, water & Spirit baptism, heart obedience to God and a natural, caring witness to God’s love for all people. Matt. 28:19-20 Our authority The Bible is our highest authority on truth and living. Our calling Ames’ 130+ year calling has strong Wesleyan character history Practical & wholistic love for each other and community. “Heart for the city” The Bible & Holy Spirit guide all we do. “Eyes on the Lord” Beliefs Every believer has a chance to serve. Diversity We are humbled and grateful that God is making us diverse; more and more like heaven!
