Who We Are

Welcome to United Church of Paducah, a congregation of the United Church of Christ, where you will find both a rich history and a radical welcome! Our congregation might have been founded in the 19th century, but our way of thinking is far from old-fashioned.

United Church of Paducah is a caring community of believers striving to be a living witness to Jesus’ far-reaching love. We believe that God’s love embraces all persons equally regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or social status. We invite you to come just as you are.

We understand faith to be a matter of mind as well as heart, and that taking the Bible seriously means it cannot always be taken literally. We feel sincere questions are a healthy part of spiritual development, and we will do our best to answer those questions as openly and honestly as possible.

We believe that Christ calls us to be nothing less than global citizens, that the social expression of love is justice, and that spiritual concerns are inseparable from commitment to the natural world.

If you have wished for a more open and embracing community of faith to nurture your spirit and raise your children, but haven’t yet found a like-minded place of belonging, then we invite you to explore the many ways that God is still speaking. No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome here!

What to Expect

What are services like?

Welcome to one of Paducah’s warmest, most open-minded worship experiences! As you enter the sanctuary, no one will ask you to put on a tie or leave your brain and life experience at the door. Following Jesus’ example, you can count on being accepted for who you are – questions and all. Our worship is at once lively and traditional, a balance that both anchors us in grace and sets each of us free to serve God in life-giving ways. Music here is a juicy mix of contemporary and classical. Expect the unexpected when it comes sermon time – particularly if you have outgrown the faith of your childhood. As worship ends, you’ll return to the world energized, hope-filled, and certain you are loved… by God and by us. There’s a place in our pews just for you!

What if I'm not a Christian?

You do not have to pretend to understand and believe things that you do not. No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you will find a welcoming spiritual home here. There is no pressure to join - ever. If you are interested in becoming a member of our church, please call the church at 207-442-3722.
