About Us

Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church (TVPC) dates back to a Presbyterian Society that existed in the Tygarts Valley as early as 1781. Officially formed in 1820, the church survived the Civil War even though the church building did not. The current building was dedicated in 1883. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in the mid-1980s.

TVPC currently has a very active program for school aged children, including after school events weekly.

As a part of the church history, I'd like to share with you that my grandfather Dr. Glenn Yount was the pastor of this beautiful church back in the 1920's and 30's before moving to Petersburg, WV to pastor the Presbyterian church there. He and my grandmother raised their five children in this church. Grandfather was a WW1 veteran who dedicated his life to the Lord to help the community residents of Huttonsville and the surrounding area.. Respectfully submitted by Becky Yount Michael.
