Who We Are

Together, we are Learning to Lead through, Love in, and Live for Christ

Why do we exist as a church? We Grow People
What is Our Identity?
Powerful, modern, Spirit-filled Worship; like for real…not just saying this. Sensitive, welcoming environment to unchurched/newly churched. An intense call/commitment for Christians to live a life of Spiritual Disciplines and ministry. An environment of authenticity and transparency…we understand we aren’t perfect and we’re not going to try and hide that…we hope you don’t fe
el like you need to either.

Why are we going there?
Because I love the local church and truly believe that we experience Christ more in the setting of a diverse community of believers than anywhere else. I believe that the local church provides the hope for humanity and the great opportunity for discipleship and accountability. In Genesis, God walked with Adam in the garden and throughout Scripture He pursued relationship with His people more than anything else. Jesus said, “seek me and you shall find me when you seek me with all your heart.” I just want to be a part of a church where I, and everyone else, can seek Christ with all their heart no matter their spiritual maturity. I want a church where I can experience God both emotionally and intelligently.

Does it really matter?
I believe that most American churches has become more American than church. And most American pastors are more concerned with narcissistic motives to be a local/regional/national Christian celebrity than actually loving and leading people. I’ve been involved behind the scenes in church life long enough to have grown discouraged that an authentic Christian experience of unified community is far too difficult to discover in the American church landscape. So why are we going there? To give Christians one more authentic church to find. Even if the church never increases to more than a handful of growing people, then that is all that matters.

What is the reward for achieving the goal?
A church that people, including us, can be excited to be a part of and where God through his Holy Spirit can genuinely begin moving and growing people. I believe there is a God, I believe He is relational, and I believe He would be glorified through spiritual leaders creating an environment where He can build into His relationship with people without distractions, politics, and American materialism interfering.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We would love to have you worship with us in one of our worship services. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. We sing gospel-centered songs and enjoy regular preaching from the Bible designed to help us grow in our relationship with God.

What is the community like?
Torch Community Church is a multi-generational church located in Northern Kentucky in the suburbs of Cincinnati. We know we don't have it all figured out, and we don't expect you to either. That's why our vision is simply that together, we are learning to lead through, love in, and live for Christ.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Everyone is welcome at Torch. You'll find that we are just glad you came. We believe Jesus wasn't judgmental toward those outside the church, and we want to be like Him. So whether you’re a college student, young professional, new parent, or experienced grandparent, we have Bible study groups and opportunities to serve designed to help you know God better.

BJ Sanders

BJ Sanders

Pastor BJ Sanders planted Torch Community Church for one simple reason, he hates what church has become enough to want to revolutionize while loving the church enough to step in and make a difference. BJ is passionately in love with Christ, his family, and the people in the church. BJ grew up in the church and early on was unsettled at how inwardly focused many churches have become and how little most churches actually get about the business of Christ. He felt called into vocational ministry at only 16 years old. And it was in college that he decided that he would need to choose to either abandon the church and be committed to other Christian organizations or to stay true to God's call in his life. Thankfully, BJ chose to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty. He has been pastoring in some capacity in the church since 2004. BJ married his high school sweetheart in 2004. They are the perfect combination as she is the stability and foundation to his hurried and decisive personality. She keeps him patient and he keeps her passionate. They had their first child, Luke, in 2006. Then they had their second, Lucy, in 2009. BJ double majored in college, receiving a BA in both Speech Communications and Philosophy. He has since attended seminary at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX and the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. Both BJ and Jen have a passion for Christ, His church, and missions. Both have worked in several regional and national mission projects. BJ is on the board for Young Life Capernaum, a para-church Christian organization dedicated to reaching and serving kids with disabilities in the name of Christ. But they both would say that their international mission experiences are the highlight of their Christian experience. BJ was given the opportunity to serve and preach in the rural areas of Honduras. And Jennifer worked one summer at an orphanage in Kitale, Kenya. BJ believes in expository preaching and unconditional love. He would love the opportunity to minister with and to you at Torch Community Church.
