Who We Are

The Community of Saint John is a community of Christians dedicated to being the embodiment of God's love in the world, committed to following Jesus’ way of love in our own time and in our own day.

The essence of our Community was established by our Lord in the calling of his disciples (followers or students) to be one with one another even as Jesus and God were one.

Our Community exists to support the belief that God created us to live in community where people are earthed and find their true identity.

Our Services

What are services like?
The Community of Saint John believes in taking the best of the vast heritage of Christian worship and incorporating it into a liturgy that glorifies God and inspires the Community. Our worship is centered in and around the celebration of the Holy Eucharist (communion). On the night before he died, Jesus shared a meal with his friends as an example of the communion they were to have with God and with each other. When we participate in this communal meal, we abide in God and God abides in us. A community which prays together in silence and adoration is bound together by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

What is the community like?
We are a diverse community of teachers, lawyers, stay-at-home moms, business owners, retail workers, college professors, secretaries...you name it, you'll find it here. We delight in the joy of babies and toddlers and learn from the wisdom of the matriarchs and patriarchs of the Community. We value reverence and contemplation and seize opportunities for celebration and service.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We welcome ALL seekers. We are a Christian community committed to sharing our faith journey with all people - no exceptions. We follow the example of Jesus: we welcome ALL seekers.

Brian Suntken

Brian Suntken

Brian Suntken was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the son of a Dutch Reformed minister, and grew up in New York City. Before going into the ordained ministry, Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance at The Manhattan School of Music in New York City in 1983. He had completed the first year of a Masters degree at Manhattan when the French Government awarded him with a scholarship to study in Paris at the L’Ecole Normale de Musique. Brian earned his Masters of Divinity degree from The General Theological Seminary in 1989, and served as an Episcopal priest for 23 years. Brian has used his passion for God and God's people in a lifetime of community activism and dedication to the spiritual and intellectual growth and enrichment of every individual. In addition his service to The Community of Saint John, Brian teaches courses in the Center for Aging Initiatives at Cuyahoga County Community College in subjects ranging from The Life and Operas of Giuseppe Verdi to Herod the Great. Brian also records and produces television shows for Hudson Cable Television. Brian and his wife, Kathy, live in Hudson and their son, John, is a student and active Jazz musician at The Ohio State University.
