St Peter Lutheran Church

About Us

Building a Foundation of Faith

St. Peter Lutheran Church has been serving Modesto for over 30 years. We are a Biblical church giving God's word first place in our faith and life. We are a Lutheran church that proclaims forgiveness for all through Jesus Christ. We are a Christian church that gathers to praise God, to be strengthened by his word, and to reach out to those around us in Christian love.

In the world of Lutherans, we are a conservative, Confessional Lutheran church which is built on the unchanging Word of God. Our congregation belongs to an association of Lutheran churches called the WELS.

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services are Christ-focused and centered on his saving work on the cross. We understand that church is more a hospital for the sick than a sanctuary for the righteous. Our worship is centered around what our God has done for us through his Son Jesus. Sermons are prepared after study of the original languages of the Bible (Hebrew, Greek) and delivered in a way that is meant to resonate with 21st century Americans. The best way to find out about the way we worship is to join us some time for worship!

What is the community like?
The Bible describes the church as a body, where every part is important and necessary. St. Peter congregation is a group of believers who care about one another. We're small enough to get to know everyone but large enough so that it doesn't feel like a family you cannot break into.

What if I'm not a Christian?
My challenge to you is to study what the Bible says. Even more important than attending worship would be to study in our introduction to Christianity classes. In these classes you have a chance to look at the claims of the Bible and ask questions so that you really understand what Christianity is all about. The Lutheran church began 500 years ago when Martin Luther went back to the Bible. This is still our strength as Lutherans today. Unfortunately, many people think they know but never take the time to really investigate. St. Peter doesn't have a whole lot of fancy programs, but we do love to study the Word of God. Contact Pastor Cortright and he will be glad to sit down with you.
