About Us

Vibrant and Growing Church in the Anglican Tradition

St. John's Episcopal Church Tampa is a vibrant, growing parish located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Tampa. Our mission is to proclaim, by word and example, the good news of God in Christ, and to build a spiritual community forming Christians of all ages through education, worship and outreach. We invite you to visit our beautiful historic church and hear our angelic Anglican-style choir. Our Sunday Services: Join us for the Holy Eucharist at 8am (Rite I, spoken) and 9:30 a.m. (Rite II with organ music and choir). Christian formation for all ages, including Sunday school, follows the 9:30am service. Time for fellowship in the form of Coffee Hour takes place after each service in either our Parish Hall or lovely Courtyard. We warmly welcome you to come visit St. John's and look forward to meeting you!

What to Expect

What are services like?
At the heart of all Episcopal worship is the Book of Common Prayer, and within it the principal weekly service is the Holy Eucharist—also known as Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, or Mass. St John’s celebrates this service on Sundays at 8am. (Rite I, spoken) and 9:30 am. (Rite II, organ music with choir). Sunday school and Christian formation for all ages follows the 9:30am service. Our nursery for children is available at both the 8am and 9:30am services. For each Christian season, the Book of Common Prayer lays out the form that the service should take, and provides the text for most of the prayers. A calendar of readings from the Scriptures, called the “Lectionary,” lays out which biblical passages should be read each day. Typical services will mix readings, prayers, hymns and a sermon. In every case, while a priest leads the service, the congregation participates extensively—singing hymns and speaking or singing prayers, the creed, responses and psalms.

What is the community like?
Sunday services at St. John's Episcopal Church Tampa are exciting, filled with prayer and praise, and you will be welcomed as our guest.
