About Us

"Moving Forward" - Philippians 3:13-14

We worship and serve God together as a community of believers. We support one another’s values and beliefs. We nurture the faith of God's people in a variety of ways, including adult and children education programs, missionary projects, outreach programs, prayer and visitation ministries. Organized from a mission in 1868, The St. John AME Church has been worshipping through 2 turns of the century at the corner of 7th and Topeka Boulevard since 1886.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We follow a traditional liturgy with a contemporary flare to it. There is a lot of music, prayer, meditation and powerful preaching. An opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior is offered as well as an invitation to join our community is offered following the sermon. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at our main worship experience.

What is the community like?
We are a mission-oriented people busy in the work of showing Jesus Christ to the world outside our doors and to those who venture in.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Non-Christians are welcome to come and learn of the Christ we profess. We will not "hard-sell" you but will not make any excuses for our faith or attempt to hide it in the spirit of Ecumenism.
