St. James Anglican Church

Traditional Faith in a Contemporary World

Sun 9:00am + Anglican Newcomers welcome San Jose, CA

About Us

St. James is an Anglican Church and part of the Anglican Church in North America. Anglicanism is one way of being a Christian. It is an ancient way of living out a Christian faith that stresses the authority of Scripture, the best use of our intellect, and an openness to unexpected questions. Anglicanism brings together ancient patterns of Christian living and worship with the challenges we all face in a modern world.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Anglican worship follows an ancient pattern and may have a traditional or contemporary expression. We have two services at St James. Our 9 am service is traditional and our 10:30 is contemporary. Both follow the ancient pattern that would have been recognizable by a first century Christian. We love kids, and children are always welcome to stay with their parents throughout the service. We do have a staffed nursery at both services. The Nursery is located right next to our worship space. We also have Sunday School during the first half of our second service. We strive to be "kid friendly".

What is the community like?
Friendly, caring, involved,

What if I'm not a Christian?
Opening our hearts and minds to God is a big deal. Some people find it easy to make this decision. Other people need more information before they feel ready to take this step. At St. James we recognize that every person's journey is unique. If you want to learn more about God we want you to know that you are welcome to come hang out with us and explore the possibility of a life with God. We hope you will visit us on a Sunday, and look forward to meeting you. We understand that visiting a church for the first time can be anxious moment. We promise that we will not make a fuss over you and try to make your visit an enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Leadership

Ed McNeill

Ed McNeill

Our Senior Pastor is Ed McNeill. You can call him Ed, or Fr. Ed, or anything else you are comfortable with. Ed was ordained in 1986 and has served as a Senior Pastor in Alberta, Canada and here in California. He is a graduate of Nashotah House in Wisconsin. In the Anglican Church a Sr. Pastor is usually called a Rector. Ed is our principle vision caster, leader, and preacher. He works with our Vestry (our governing board) to discern God's will for St. James. Ed is a good preacher. He is occasionally funny. He is faithful. If he says he is going to pray for you he will.
