St. Francis' Episcopal Church

About Us

Create, embrace & inspire respect & understanding within our community.

A congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey and the world-wide Anglican Communion. The Mission of St. Francis' Church is to create, embrace & inspire respect & understanding within our community. "Lord, make me an Instrument of your Peace"

St. Francis' is handicapped accessible with an elevator and a ramp.

As an Oasis Welcoming Congregation, St. Francis invites and welcomes all people as full members of our church family and worship life, particularly those who have experienced exclusion because of their sexual orientation or identity and are seeking a safe and affirming spiritual home.

The roots of the St. Francis parish family stretch back more than a century. The church, named in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, was brought about by the merger of St. Andrew's Church, Plainfield and Holy Innocents Church, Dunellen, on November 9, 1980.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We use the Rite II service from the Book of Common Prayer. There are many similarities between this service and a Roman Catholic mass - the first part is the Liturgy of the Word, followed by a celebration of the Eucharist. At St. Francis, the 8:00am service is spoken only and the 10:00am service includes music.

What is the community like?
The St. Francis community is friendly, welcoming and inclusive. We love children and we encourage families to involve their young people in all aspects of the life of our church, from Sunday School and the acolyte program to Youth Group, lay reading, our annual Christmas pageant, and more. We also have a strong outreach focus through our work with Grace's Kitchen in Plainfield, ongoing donations to the FISH pantry, our annual adoption of a Christmas family, and a variety of other programs throughout the year.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All are welcome at St. Francis!

My family and I have found a wonderful community at St. Francis'. It is a gift to have a group of people who we can share joys and sorrows with, as well as spiritual connection. Our young son loves to come to church where he can be with friends and he is always greeted with smiles.

St. Francis' Episcopal Church is by far the most welcoming and truly caring church to which I've belonged. Its members don't just ask "How are you?", but "How are you REALLY?" Fr, Jack Zamboni goes out of his way to respond to the needs of the parishioners, physical and spiritual.
