What to Expect

What are services like?

We use the Book of Common Prayer, Rite I in our services. Everything you'll need to know is conveniently printed out and provided for you in your pew. You'll know when to stand, when to sit, and how to respond to the liturgy. And if you have any questions, someone sitting next to you will be happy to help! At each service, we have readings from the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Psalms, and we sing traditional hymns. There is Communion at every service, and if you are a baptized Christian you are welcome to participate. If you'd rather not receive Communion and would just like a blessing, come on up to the altar rail with everyone else and just cross your arms across your chest. That's the signal for Father David to bless you!

What is the community like?

We are a warm and welcoming community and very happy to meet newcomers! Some of our congregation are new arrivals to St. Francis, and some have been members for many decades. We have many multigenerational families, which we believe demonstrates the depth of our commitment to our faith family.

What if I'm not a Christian?

You are welcome! Please come and see for yourself what St. Francis can offer. Meet us, join with us in our community service projects and our many annual events -- like the Blessing of the Pets, the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, the Fall Bonfire, and many more -- and decide if the St. Francis Family is for you!

Church Leader

David Pearson

The Rev. David Pearson is the new priest in charge at Saint Francis Episcopal Church. He comes to us directly after earning a Master of Divinity degree from Nashotah House Seminary, an Anglo-Catholic institution that forms people in the Benedictine way of work, study, and prayer. Prior to attending Nashotah House he graduated from Purdue North Central with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. He is married to Jen Pearson, a physical therapist who received her clinical doctorate from Findlay College. Native Hoosiers both, they are happy to be back in Northwest Indiana.
